Students with Developmental Delays

Service Description

This course is designed to help educators understand the unique needs of students with developmental delays. Participants will learn the most effective strategies for teaching students with developmental delays, as well as how to create a supportive learning environment. The course will also explore best practices for working with families and managing challenging behaviors. Participants will leave this course with a comprehensive understanding of the learning needs of students with developmental delays and the tools to support them in the classroom. Course formats: This course is offered in group courses and online format when available. Acceptance information: This course is accepted for professional development training requirements and annual in-service hours/credits in most states. Learning Outcomes: ● Identify common developmental delays and their associated challenges. ● Explain the importance of early identification and intervention for students with developmental delays. ● Develop strategies to meet the needs of students with developmental delays. ● Recognize the importance of collaboration with families and other professionals when addressing the needs of students with developmental delays. ● Develop an understanding of the various interventions used to address the needs of students with developmental delays. ● Identify strategies to promote the engagement of students with developmental delays in the classroom. Topics covered: ● Understanding Developmental Delays ● Strategies for Supporting Students with Developmental Delays ● Using Assistive Technology for Students with Developmental Delays ● Classroom Management Strategies for Students with Developmental Delays ● Working with Parents of Students with Developmental Delays Assessment methods: Multiple choice quiz and/or written assignments. Instructional methodology: Interactive Instruction, experiential learning, read written material, view videos, and listen to audio segments.
